At Kidzonia, we ensure children get ample opportunities to engage in activities to enable holistic learning. We follow, developmentally appropriate practices, for each child to nurture and grow. The Skill development during the first five years of your child’s life moves fast and grows rapidly in preschoolers .Language blooms and motor abilities advances ,thinking becomes more developed ,and social and emotional skills allow more interaction with other people .
Our Curriculum DISCOVER is considered age appropriate or developmentally appropriate as it is based on knowledge of how most students grow and what they can do socially, emotionally, cognitively and physically, at a given age.
Physical domain of development refers to the development of a child’s muscles and movement. At Kidzonia we aim towards developing children’s gross (large) and fine (small) motor skills.
We ensure our children run, jump, hop, dance, participate in regular group games, rough and tumble play, outdoor activities, water play, sand play and use slides, swings, green space and open space. We also hold special martial art classes to build their gross motor skills.
Fine motor skills are strengthened through activities requiring eye and hand coordination. These activities lay the foundation for future skills like writing, eating, painting, etc. Children regularly engage in lacing beads, finger painting, clay moulding, pouring, scribbling and many other activities.
Cognition refers to the process of thinking. It is to learn and hone skills of logic. Cognition covers a wide range of skills of memory retention, problem solving, reasoning being few. Our children engage in activities, which progressively help to develop logic and reasoning skills. They solve puzzles, compare, measure, use their senses, recall and share. These activities are crucial for cognitive or brain development.
LANGUAGES AND LITERACY DEVELOPMENT
India is a multilingual country. Hence, usually children come to the classroom with a variety of linguistic skills in English, Hindi or their home language.
To learn a language in order to use it as a means of communication, the children need to deal with the four language skills-listening, speaking, reading and writing- and the language system—sound structure and vocabulary. By mastering these elements, they are expected to be able to integrate them during communication. We take care of all the aspects of the Language skills and our children get ample opportunities to learn with a multilingual perspective. Teachers keep children engaged with lots of stories, rhymes, and opportunities to speak and interact. Our children learn to read and write in English and Hindi.
PERSONAL, SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL
If a child can do advanced math or can speak three languages, but cannot manage his/her emotions, handle stress or practice conflict resolutions…none of the other stuff is really going to matter.’- Author unknown.
We address these concerns, through continued efforts to encourage personal, social and emotional development.
Opportunities for acquiring personal skills are given by way of teaching our young learners, table etiquette, attaining independence in routine activities, speaking and sharing. Social and Emotional skills are honed when children work collaboratively at learning centres, put away toys together and participate in group games.
VALUES AND LIFE SKILLS
Values and Life skills are important in a child’s life. Our Kidzos learn through stories, discussions and activities that focus on empathy and helping others. Our teachers help our children to weigh their options, evaluate the pros and cons of that decision and then let them make the final decision to see how things pan out. The children are taught and explained the importance of the Magic Words- Sorry, Please and Thank you which would help them in their life when dealing with different situations. Different group activities are taken to encourage sharing and learn empathy skills.
Children are born creative. Creative development in preschoolers is all about nurturing their overactive imagination and promoting skills. Anything that requires children to use their skill set, hone them and also develop new skills entirely in an area of interest is creativity and divergent thinking.
We don’t restrict creative opportunities, solely to participation in art and craft activities. We let children engage in learning to play the piano, clay modelling, in role plays to enable other avenues of expressing themselves creatively.
Linguistic development is the process by which children come to understand and communicate language during early childhood.
It is important for children to learn letter-sound relationships because English uses letters in the alphabet to represent sounds. We teach phonic sounds and phonics to help children learn proper pronunciation and how to read. Children learn the sounds that each letter makes, and how a change in the order of letters changes a word's meaning.
